In April 2016, the management of Kuwait stock exchange was handed over to Boursa Kuwait, which resulted in several capital market reforms that went on to reshape the country's capital markets. Boursa Kuwait launched a Market Development Program that was executed in three phases to address underlying issues such as improving transparency, removing barriers for listing and enhancing the market infrastructure. The reforms helped boost the investor confidence and also earned the country inclusion in several globally acclaimed indices including the MSCI Emerging Market Index and S&P Emerging BMI. Presently, Kuwait market constitutes for about 10% of overall market capitalization (adj. for free float) and about 7% of the value traded in the GCC region.
